Immer Wieder Sonntags, KW 36 – It's Sunday, Time And Time Again, Week 36

WATCHED: Documentaries on ZDF Mediathek, for example Essen auf der Überholspur which was about the global transport of fresh produce, which was incredibly interesting for me, as I work in food retail. :D
The daily news on tagesschau.de,
New Doctor Who episodes Deep Breath and Into The Dark.
READ: Again, I didn't get around to read any books, but I managed to keep up with the blogs on my reader.
LISTENED: La Belle Mixtape "Sunny Days" mixed by Henri Pfr
DONE: Got some paperwork done, cooked, baked banana bread, this time with dried physalis, which I had received as a gift from Hello Fresh – yum! Instant love! I like how physalis are sweet, but at the same time slightly spicy, which worked amazingly well for the banana bread.
Looked for hokkaido squash recipes on chefkoch.de, found them on Pinterest. Because, no, I don not believe the only dish you can make from hokkaido squash is soup. Nope.
Swatched through that awesome heap of makeup I won from Das Jahreszeitenhaus, and through every  single copper toned eyeshadow (and one bronzer, which actually turned up the best result) I could find.
I managed to walk the distance to the main station in 20 instead of the usual 30 minutes ... because that's the location of the only postbox which gets emptied on Sundays. Yup, I procrastinated again and nearly missed another deadline. I really need to stop doing that. Seriously. My life could be so much easier..
Been to the Caritas again. Cross your fingers, if things go well, I might have some much needed help soon to deal with things.
EATEN: Enchiladas, banana bread, zucchini casserole with rice pilav, honey roast peanuts & cashews, sandwiches, rollmops, chicken nuggets with saté sauce and rice. Sweets! Snacks! Meat! How I missed you!
Chicken nuggets with saté sauce, enchiladas stuffed with beans and beef, pbj sandwich on my way to work, banana bread
Zucchini casserole with rice pilav, banana bread and coffee break at work, late evening sandwiches and rollmops, enchiladas again
DRUNK: Coffee, cocoa, iced tea, orange lemonade, water
THOUGHT: "What, it's 2PM already?!" "What, tomorrow's already Thursday?!" "What, it's the 5th September already?!"
ENJOYED: The relief after I opened a dreaded envelope I had in my mail and actually getting some good news. I swear, I cried tears of joy. I laughed. I sang. For the first time in ... quite a long time, actually, I felt like a huge weight had been taken from me, and things were finally looking up again. That was, of course, until stuff at work happened.
LAUGHED: I'm pretty sure I must have laughed at something?
ANNOYED: As per usual, at myself, for making More Dumb Mistakes. Seriously, whenever I think I've done it all already, something new turns up. I know it's the anxiety, I know it's the depression. But still. Dear Subconscious, I get the message, kthxbye.
Saturday off next week getting axed as well.
Also, very annoyed at a bossy, knows-it-all acquaintance of mine, who also is a snitch. Karma, it will get you eventually.
WISHED: One week, just One Week, of Everything Going Right. Pretty please? Or, at least, me being able to keep track of time properly.
BOUGHT: Was a good girl and bought only food and stationary. And traded stuff on Kleiderkreisel.de (this is a flea market site of sorts, to trade/sell used clothes and cosmetics) to replace my broken Wet N Wild Comfort Zone palette. And I got the Wet N Wild Getting Sunburned palette on top!
PLAYED: A bit of Starbound. But no updates were happening on the nightly builds (for a reason, it turned out, though I don't understand any of it, lol), so basically I was  still stuck without being able to fix my starships jump engine and getting bored quickly.
CLICKED: Check back in tomorrow, the post has already been written and scheduled. ;-)
Nachrichten auf tagesschau.de,
Die neuen Doctor Who Episoden Deep Breath und Into The Dark.
Snacks! Fleisch! Ich hab euch sooo vermisst!
Zucchini casserole with rice pilav, banana bread and coffee break at work, late evening sandwiches and rollmops, enchiladas again
GETRUNKEN: Kaffee, Kakao, Eistee, Wasser, Orangenlimo
GEDACHT: "Was, schon 14 Uhr?!" "Was, morgen ist schon Donnerstag?!"
Neiiiiiin! Oh Gott, jetzt schon?! Giveaway Gewinn! Scheußlicher geht's nimmer ... oder?
Noooo! OMG, already?! Giveaway prize! It can't possibly get any uglier ... can it?
Kann ich leider nicht essen, wg. Allergie. KANN ich essen. Blüht auch im Herbst noch.
Can't eat, cuz, allergies. CAN eat. Still blooms in fall.
Ehrlich. :)
On the way back from the main station, would love that little car. Seriously. :)
Jaaa, Herbst!
Yesss, autumn! The Obere Webergasse early Saturday morning. Nature finds its way II – in my backyard, btw, right in front of the trash containers. It's a miracle they haven't been squished yet! Hazelnuts are ripe, unfortunately I'm not allowed to eat them. Allergies again.
Langer Spaziergang durch den Park im Nerotal
Took a long walk through the Nerotal park
Still the same park, and the Neroberg funicular railway – I should take a ride before it goes on winter break!
Immer noch spazieren ..
Still walking ...
Hortensien. Essbar, oder Ziertrauben? Gibt es Ziertrauben?
Am amazed these gumball machines still exist – this is one of the few which doesn't have the display protected with grating. Sunflower making up for the lack of sunshine. Hydrangea. Edible? Are there kinds of grapes which are decorative only?
Und, wie war eure Woche so?

Food Friday: Kartoffel-Curry Mit Roten Linsen – Potato Curry With Red Lentils

A fantastically simple recipe, which is great for the autumn-y weather as of late. (Seriously, August? Seriously?) It's also very inexpensive, and vegetarian to boot. This recipe makes two servings, or keeps one hungry single (me) fed. It goes great with naan (Indian flatbread) and yogurt sauce. You can easily modify the recipe by adding chicken, or raisins, or ...

  • 500 g potatoes
  • 100 g red lentils
  • 1 onion
  • 2-3 carrots
  • 1-2 Tbsp. red curry paste
  • 200 ml coconut cream
  •  some vegetable oil
  •  some vegetable broth
Peel and dice the onion. Wash, peel and cut the potatoes into cubes. Wash, peel and cut the carrots into ca. 1 cm thick slices.

In a deep frying pan, sautee the onion with a bit of oil until they start turning transparent.

Add the red curry paste, let it roast for about a minute while stirring. A word on the curry paste. I always use "Spice Paste for Thai Red Curry Kaang Daeng" by the brand "Asian Home Gourment" which comes in small plastic baggies of 50 g. It is not quite as hot as the kind sold in Asian food stores, and contains far less salt and no preservatives. I have no idea if it's available outside of Germany. If I can't get it, I use the red curry paste from Asian food stores, which is hotter, and, meh, contains preservatives. What I never use is the "red curry paste" offered during Asia themed food special offers, but made by European manufacturers and adapted to the European palate.  It just doesn't taste right, the ingredients listed are completely different from the Asian original, and it contains lots and lots of salt. Ugh. Nope.

Back to cooking:

Add the potato cubes and carrot slices, toss and stir some until the're evenly coated with the curry paste. Add coconut cream, place lid on pan, and let simmer on low heat. Occasionally give it a stir.

After about 10 minutes, add the red lentils, and let simmer for another 10 minutes while occasionally stirring. If you think there's not enough liquid, add some vegetable broth.

Give it a taste, season if necessary, and if the ingredients are still too al dente for you, let simmer for a bit longer.

Guten Appetit!
