ENJOYED: When my foot recovered enough for me to be able to walk to work

LAUGHED: About that kindergarten horde in the bus admiring the planters with the pretty flowers on the sidewalk, and trying to trump each other who'd seen the prettiest one

ANNOYED: That I was forced to use public transportation to get to work. I haaaaate having to take the bus. It's stuffy. And cramped. And never on time. Plus I get motion sick all the time. It makes me a very cranky person. Also, when I got the library card, it turned out they still had me in the databank from well over 10 years ago, and actually tried to fine me for a lost card. WTF. 

WISHED: That I could focus. That would solve a lot of my problems.

GEÄRGERT: Dass ich wegen dem Matschefuß mit dem Bus zur Arbeit musste. Ich hasse busfahren. Es ist stickig. Und eng. Und unpünktlich. Und ich werde reisekrank. Das macht aus mir eine verdammt unleidliche Person. Und als ich mir den Büchereiausweis ausstellen ließ, stellte sich heraus, dass ich nach über 10 Jahren immer noch in der Datenbank war, und sie wollten mir doch tatsächlich eine Strafgebühr für den "verlorenen Ausweis" aufbrummen. WTF.

GEWÜNSCHT: Mich konzentrieren zu können. Das würde ne ganze Menge Probleme für mich lösen.

Bead Soup Blog Party 8: Revealed!

AND late, so sorry about that. -_-; Things didn't quite go as planned, in between working a double shift yesterday, returning home an hour before midnight so worn out that I slept in until noon today, which hasn't happened to me in a very long time. So then I scrambled to get all things household done, because I've got another super busy week ahead of me. It wasn't until I finally got to sit down and work on my weekly review post that I noticed my reveal post was still sitting in Blogger's drafts folder, and hadn't gone online as scheduled. Because I forgot to hit the "publish" button, no doubt.

My sincere apologies to all who came to this site only to find nothing's there, especially my super sweet partner Melissa. As a reminder, this is the bead soup she sent me:

I didn't use all of this soup, but I definitely got my jewelry mojo back, as I ended up creating four pieces with it, two necklaces, and two pairs of earrings:

What gave me the most trouble, was this gorgeous, but huge, huge focal Melissa sent me:

I almost ended up not using it at all, because my original plan for it didn't work out. I wanted to create a beadwoven bail for it, but since I'm no seed beader, of course I didn't have the beads required around. And while I do acknowledge that Miyuki beads are of superior quality, I refuse to pay €5 for 6 grams, when I know I can get them for less than half of it online. Needless to say, those beads appear still to be stuck in postal limbo, even with the one-week-delay for the reveal.

Then I tried pairing the focal against pretty much every brass stamping I own, and while many of them make for great bails, none of them worked for this pendant, due to the relieved surface. But! Just when I was about to give up, I stumbled across a very simplistic bail in my collection, which had been in one of B'sue's Facebook Friday Muse lots. Too bad she no longer offers them, sigh. In any way, this is what I came up with:

It seems that, whenever I've got to deal with unusually large pendants, I reach for my spool of memory wire. *laughs* This necklace is still missing a clasp (and it definitely needs one, due to the weight of the focal and those large turquoise colored beads in the front), but otherwise I love how it came out. It has a very rich feeling to it, with the warm gold, the pearl, and the faceted "gems".  

The other focal was an easy one to deal with. It's sunny, warm yellow demanded to be paired with copper, and since the chain I picked, also had golden components, it allowed me to bring in the cloisonne beads for an added pop of color. <3 p="">

This is where the dainty wire rose clasp ended up, by the way. I'm pretty sure this necklace will turn out to be a summer favorite of mine:

I also ended up creating two pairs of earrings, the first using hand-painted brass components: 

 And the second using copper plated filigree connectors, with earhooks I created from the leftover lengths of wire from the headpins I used for the orange frosted beads:

I'm a little sad I didn't use more of Melissa's bead soup, but I always can do that later. Those yellow beads she sent, would look great paired with copper, and I've already got plans for that lampwork bead.

Aussie Soup!

MY bead soup from my Australian BSBP swap partner Melissa arrived! Actually it did arrive about three weeks ago, I just didn't get to take pictures of it until last weekend, and to post about it until today. My day job in retail kept me running like a hamster in a hamster wheel due to the Easter holiday madness. Kinda like this:

And there's another holiday coming up here in Germany next week, 1st of May – no rest for the wicked.

Anyway! I was going to show you the bead soup I received. I was very happy to find that little package sitting on top of my mailbox after I returned home late at night from work. Yay! Instant cheer-up.

THIS cute little box contained several organza bags with beads, and when I opened the first one, I instantly knew I was doomed. Pastells. NOOOOOOOO!! I don't do pastells. At all. So this will definitely a challenge!

Fortunately there were no more pastells in the next baggy, but chalky white, yellow, orange and a deep red. Nothing I've got in my stash, but I definitely felt more comfortable with this part of the soup: 

Next up, the first focal – yes, Melissa was generous enough to actually sent two – a gorgeous donut shaped ceramic pendant decorated with a flower relief. It's huge, at least by my standards, as I usually do the small and dainty thing:

This is the second focal, also ceramic, and as you can see it matches nicely with the "warm" beads of the soup:

Here you can see the metal elements of the bead soup Melissa sent me: A leaf shaped toggle clasp, some very nice silver elements and ball-end copper headpins:

The tiny box contained a hand made dainty clasp made from copper wire in the shape of a rose:

Overall I couldn't possibly be happier with this soup! The pastels and the huge focal certainly have my creative gears turning, and the frosted surface and the pebble shape some of the beads have, reminds me of beach glass. Overall there's a floral theme to it, and I love the vibes this, combined with the colors give me: Beaches, flower power, retro chic, hippie culture, bell bottom pants and 70ies design ...

Immer Wieder Sonntags KW16 – Sunday, Time And Time Again

LISTENED: Nightwalker Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 by Boogie Belgique. Still not getting tired of it.

DONE: Folded mountains of clean laundry on Monday, washed some more and put it on the lines. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were all workworkwork, on Friday I got to relax and cook with Mister H. Well, to be honest, I only cut some onions and peeled a few potatoes, he did most of the cooking. Saturday easily ranked top on my list of Worst. Days. Ever. Mister H. really is the best and truest friend I could ever have. Thank you for making time and being there for me that day.
EATEN: Donauwelle, bulgur salad, cashew nuts, home fried potatoes with steak, home fried potatoes with sausages and sauerkraut.

DRUNK: Schwipschwap, Ginger Ale, water, "Spezi", fewer energy drinks – I'm trying to wean myself off that stuff. 

THOUGHT: Life would be so much easier, if people could just look inside my head and see how I "tick".

ENJOYED: Easter lunch with my family today. Unfortunately I completely forgot about taking pictures. A shame, since the young lady at the neighboring table was wearing a shirt with a Tardis print. 

LAUGHED: Together with my niece and sister, when I presented the chocolate bunnies wrapped in hot pink to my dad and brother. ;D

ANNOYED: Massively, but it's nothing that should be mentioned in the web.

WISHED: Why can't one, just one week run for me smoothly?

BOUGHT: Small drugstore haul: Maybelline Master Drama Khol Liner in Dark Brown, MaxFactor Khol Kajal in Natural Glaze (would anyone be interested in a comparison with Catrice's Inside Eye Highlighter Pen?), Catrice iROSEdescent nail polish and the Holographic Liner from the Haute Future LE, Manhattan Hey Jade! nail polish from the Retro Glam LE and the Alverde Extreme Black mascara. The nail polishes were 30% off in Rossmann, and with the liner I've gotten extremely lucky – I've been hunting for that one all over the place, and there it was ... a completely untouched Haute Future LE display in Rossmann.

GETAN: Montag erfolgreich die Wäscheberge bestiegen, Dienstag, Mitwoch und Donnerstag nur schaffeschaffeschaffe, Freitag als Ausgleich mit Herrn H. zusammen gekocht. Nagut, um ehrlich zu sein, er hat gekocht und ich habe nur ein paar Alibizwiebeln geschnippelt. Samstag reihte sich in die Liste "Schlimmster Tag Aller Zeiten" ein, und schaffte es auch noch gleich an die Spitze des Rankings. Danke, Herr H., dass Sie sich an diesem Tag Zeit für mich genommen hast, und für mich da gewesen sind.
GEGESSEN: Donauwelle, Cashewkerne, Bulgursalat, Bratkartoffeln mit Steak, Bratkartoffeln mit Nürnbergern und Sauerkraut.

GETRUNKEN: Schwipschwap, Ginger Ale, Spezi, weniger Energy Drinks – versuch mir das Zeug abzugewöhnen.

GEDACHT: Das Leben könnte doch so viel einfacher sein, wenn Leute in meinen Kopf gucken könnten um zu sehen wie ich "ticke". 

GEFREUT: Über das gemeinsame Osteressen im Burgunderstübchen mit meiner Familie. Leider komplett vergessen Fotos zu machen. Schade, denn die junge Dame am Nachbartisch trug ein Shirt mit der Tardis drauf. 

GELACHT: Mit meiner Schwester und Nichte, als ich die knallpinken Schokohasen für die Herren präsentiert habe. Was, Pink ist keine Männerfarbe?

GEÄRGERT: Ganz enorm, aber manche Dinge possaunt man besser nicht ins Netz hinaus.

GEWÜNSCHT: Das mal eine Woche, eine einzige Woche, einfach nur glatt läuft, ohne das irgend ein Sch ... passiert, der mich wieder runterzieht.

GEKAUFT: Kleiner Drogerie-Haul: Maybelline Master Drama Khol Liner in Dark Brown, MaxFactor Khol Kajal in Natural Glaze (wäre jemand an einem Vergleich mit Catrices Inside Eye Highlighter Pen interessiert?), Catrice iROSEdescent Nagellack und der Holographic Liner aus der Haute Future LE, Manhattan Hey Jade! Nagellack aus der Retro Glam LE und die Alverde Extreme Black Mascara. Die Nagellacke gabs für minus 30% bei Rossmann, und mit dem Liner hatte ich extrem viel Glück. Dem renne ich nämlich schon seit Wochen hinterher, erfolglos, und dann seh ich ein kleines Wunder: Einen komplett unberührten Haute Future LE Aufsteller bei Rossmann.

Bead Soup Blog Party: A Blast From The Past

ES ist mal wieder so weit, die alljährliche Bead Soup Blog Party, kurz: BSBP, steht an. Für diejenigen, die noch nie davon gehört haben, hier noch mal eine Zusammenfassung, worum es geht:

Es handelt sich hier um eine Art Perlen"wichteln", mit über 400 Teilnehmern aus aller Welt! Man tauscht mit seiner zugeteilten Partnerin die Adressen, schickt ein Päckchen mit einer "Perlensuppe" des Weges, und die Empfängerin zaubert dann damit eine Kreation. Es muss nicht unbedingt Schmuck dabei entstehen, ich habe auch Taschenbaumler, Schlüsselanhänger, und sogar geperlte Pflanzen gesichtet!

Einige Regeln sind jedoch zu beachten: Die Perlensuppe muss einen Verschluss und einen Anhänger enthalten, und diese müssen von der Partnerin auch verwendet werden, allerdings nicht in ein und der selben Kreation. Das ist die Pflicht, der Rest ist die Kür. An einem festgelegten Termin werden die fertigen Werke dann auf den Blogs der Teilnehmerinnen online gestellt, und es gibt einen "Blog Hop", man springt von Blog zu Blog, und schaut sich an wer was für Perlen bekommen hat, und was daraus entstanden ist, was jedes Mal wieder total überraschend und inspirierend ist!

Organisiert wird diese Mammutaktion auch dieses Jahr wieder von Lori Anderson, und das, obwohl sie schwer krank ist! Sie macht sich eine Riesenmühe mit der Zuteilung der Partnerinnen. Mit einem Zufallsgenerator ist es nicht getan, denn es gibt so viel zu beachten: Nicht alle versenden international, dann gibt es die Perlenfädlerinnen, und jene die mit Rocailles nichts anfangen können. Es gibt Erfahrene und Unerfahrene. Viele haben schon in den Vorjahren teilgenommen, und sollen natürlich nicht wieder die gleiche Partnerin bekommen, und so weiter.

Leider ist die Anmeldephase für dieses Jahr bereits vorbei. Aber wenn ihr interessiert seid, empfehle ich euch wärmstens, euch mal bei der Bead Soup Cafe Gruppe auf Facebook anzumelden. Dort seid ihr immer auf dem neuesten Stand, und könnt im Moment hautnah mitverfolgen, wie bei den Teilnehmerinnen nach und nach die "Perlensuppen" eintrudeln.

Ich selber nehme dieses Mal zum vierten Mal teil, und dachte mir, das nehme ich mal zum Anlass, um meine Perlensuppen und Ergebnisse aus den Vorjahren vorzustellen. Meine Partnerin ist dieses Jahr übrigens Melissa Trudinger aus Australien, die ich später noch ausführlicher vorstellen werde.

IT is that time again, the annual Bead Soup Blog Party, the BSBP is in full swing! For those who may have never heard of it, here's a summary of what this is about:

Basically this is a huge international bead swap, with more than 400 beaders from all over the world taking part! You swap your address with your assigned Partner, and send each other a "bead soup", and the other has to create something using that bead soup. It doesn't have to be jewelry, I have seen purse and key ring charms, and even beaded plants!

There are a few rules though: Your bead soup must contain a clasp and a focal, and these have to be used by your partner, albeit not in the same piece. At a predetermined date, every participant posts their creations on their blog for everyone to see, and this is the day of the Blog Party. Hopping from blog to blog, seeing what everyone received and created is definitely my most favorite part of the event. It is extremely surprising and inspiring!

The one organizing this huge project once again, as in the previous years, is Lori Anderson, even though she is terribly sick! She has gone through great lengths assigning the partners, giving it a lot of thought. For example there are those who wont send international, there are seed beaders and those who are not, there are the experienced and the inexperienced. And of course there are many who already participated in the previous years, and are supposed to not end up with the same partner again! 

Unfortunately the sign up phasie for this year is already over. But if you are interested, I highly recommend signing up with the Bead Soup Cafe FaceBook group. There you'll always be up to date, and you'll be able to see most everyone posting images of the bead soups they've received as they arrive one by one, which is always very exciting!

Me, I'm taking part for the fourth time this year, and thought I'd take that as a cue to show you the bead soups I've received in the previous years, and what I've created with them. My partner this year, by the way, is Melissa Trudinger from Australia, whom I'll introduce properly in a bit.

7th Bead Soup Blog Party: Meet My Partner – Darf Ich Meine Partnerin Vorstellen

“OH would you look at this,” you’re probably thinking right now, “she’s still alive!”

Yeah, I know, long time no see. Nowadays I only ever seem to resurface when it’s time for the next BSBP, which does not bide well, as it’s become an annual event now. So, after the Big Reveal, see you 2014? Hahah, I certainly hope it wont be that bad.

So … while most of you probably know what the Bead Soup Blog Party is about, some may not, so here’s a real quick summary:

Bloggers from all around the world who have fun beading and creating jewelry sign up for this, and are assigned a partner. Partners send each other a “Bead Soup” which consists of a clasp, a focal, and some beads, and then create something with what they’ve been sent. On a set date the participants reveal their creation via blog post and there’s loads of fun involved hopping from blog to blog admiring everyone’s creations and drinking wine and having snacks. Well, the latter two might be just me.

So, without further ado, my partner this time around is the lovely Merja Sundström from Finland! She herself describes herself a “baby-beader”, but I think her work looks far from being a beginner’s. Why don’t you hop over to her blog, "Suntsan Supersimppelit", and take a look for yourself.

Ja, ich weiß, lange nicht gesehen. Dieser Tage scheine ich nur noch an die Oberfläche zu krabbeln wenn es Zeit für die nächste Bead Soup Blog Party ist. Und da die jetzt nur noch einmal im Jahr statt findet, heißts dann nach der Enthüllung wohl, auf Wiedersehen in 2014? Naja, so schlimm wirds wohl hoffentlich nicht. Hoffe ich.

Die meisten von euch werden wohl wissen worum es bei der Bead Soup Blog Party geht, aber manche vielleicht noch nicht, deshalb hier noch mal eine schnelle Zusammenfassung:

Schmuckbastelnde und perlenfädelnde Blogger rund um den Globus melden sich an und bekommen einen Partner zugeteilt. Die Partner schicken sich gegenseitig eine “Perlensuppe”, bestehend aus einem Verschluss, einem Anhänger, und ein paar schönen Perlen, und verarbeiten diese dann. An einem bestimmten Datum stellt dann jeder seine Kreation im Blog vor, und man hat dann jede Menge Spaß von Blog zu Blog zu hopsen, jedermanns Kreationen zu bestaunen, Snacks zu futtern und Wein zu trinken. Naja, letzteres vielleicht nur ich.

So, um mal endlich zu Potte zu kommen, meine Partnerin dieses mal ist die fabelhafte Merja Sundström aus Finland! Sie sagt von sich selbst sie sei noch eine blutige Anfängerin, aber das seh ich ganz anders. Am besten springt ihr mal auf ihrem Blog "Suntsan Supersimppelit" vorbei und macht euch selbst ein Bild.

NICHT nur einer, sondern gleich drei Verschlüsse, Achatperlen, Muschelkernperlen, Seidenband, und zwei Anhänger. Ich liebe das kühle und gleichzeitig erdige Farbschema, und besonders die große Porzelanperle von Othel Letho die den Kopf einer Fantasykreatur darstellt.

BSBP - REVEAL! - ENTHÜLLUNG!

To brush up your memory, this is what Sara sent me

YOU may remember, the BSBP is all about breaking out of one's comfort zone and trying something new, and Sara's bead soup certainly helped me in doing just that. Sara Hardin's blog is Softflex Girl, and I've got to admit, for a little while there I've been terrified she'd send me nothing but WIRE - I kept having to remind myself this was to be a BEAD soup blog party. *laughs*

Actually, the "soup" she sent my way was quite lovely, containing many of my favorites - antique brass (real Vintaj findings - oh, these are so hard to get a hold of over here!), Czech beads, much of turquoise and seafoam color, mother of pearl,  and opalite effect beads. There was beading wire of course, I expected that. It was supposed to be my "challenge" as Sara told me in the lovely card she sent along, and she was mindful enough to include some crimp tubes in the mix. 

What took me by surprise was the orange. Do you see that lovely mother of pearl disk with the intricate floral design? I love that color (Gee, however did she guess that? :*eyes blog design*), but I never  actually use it. In fact I do not own a single orange bead. Nor was I able to find any browsing the craft stores in this town. Orange, it seems, is the most unpopular color EVER right next to yellow. Which is a shame, at it combines so nicely with turquoise, and antique brass.

The moment I laid eyes on the soup sent to me, my line of thoughts was ...

"Summer, sunset. BEACH. Light, airy. Organza ribbon? Hell yes, definitely organza ribbon. Maybe some shell too? And fringes. Oh yes, fringes."

As you can see below, I stuck with those ideas for the most part.

Zur Erinnerung: Das ist die Perlensuppe die mir Sara
geschickt hat

WIE ihr euch vielleicht erinnert, die BSBP soll dazu anregen über den eigenen perlerischen Tellerrand zu schauen und was neues zu wagen, sozusagen mal die eigene "Kuschelzone" hinter sich zu lassen. Saras "Perlensuppe" hat das ganz sicherlich bewirkt. Sara Hardin ist nämlich gaaanz zufällig die Marketing Managerin von Softlex, und - das muss ich hier mal ganz offen zugeben - für eine Zeit lang hatte ich  regelrechte Alpträume sie würde mir nichts als DRAHT schicken. Glücklicherweise war ich in der Lage mich mir in Erinnerung zu rufen dass dies eine PERLENsuppenparty sein sollte ... Und, in der Tat, die Perlensuppe die sie mir zuschickte war fantastisch, mit vielen meiner "Lieblingszutaten" - antikes Messing (Teile von Vintaj, die kriegt man hier kaum, und seltenst zu vernünftigen Preisen ...), Glasperlen aus der Tschechischen Republik, viel türkis, Perlmutt, und Perlen mit Opaleffekt. Und Schmuckdraht natürlich, wie erwartet. Das sollte meine "Herausforderung" sein, wie Sara mir in ihrer wirklich lieben Karte schrieb. Dankbarerweise hat sie mitgedacht und auch gleich noch ein paar Crimpröhrchen mit reingepackt.

Was mich in dem Mix überrascht hat, war das Orange. Seht ihr die Perlmuttscheibe mit dem feinen floralen Design? Wunderschön. Ich liebe diese Farbe (Woher hat sie das bloß gewußt? *Blogdesign beäug*), nutze sie aber nie, und habe in der Tat nicht eine einzige orange Perle in meinem Besitz. Dem wollte ich abhelfen, aber anscheinend sind orange und gelb die unbeliebtesten Farben überhaupt, da gabs nämlich nichts. GAR NICHTS. Habe mir die Füße wundgelaufen. Schade eigentlich, da es sich so schön mit dem antiken Messing kombinieren lässt.

Mein erster Gedankengang beim Anblick meiner Perlensuppe war  denn:

"Sommer, Sonnenuntergang. STRAND. Leicht, luftig. Organzaband? Oh ja, definitiv Organzaband. Vielleicht auch noch Muscheln? Und Fransen. Ganz bestimmt Fransen."

Wie ihr sehen könnt bin ich ziemlich dicht bei der Originalidee geblieben.

Breaking out of my comfort zone? HELL YES!

BREAKING out of my comfort zone - I've never before worked with beading wire, nor crimp beads or tubes.  Nor do I usually use ribbon in my design, or do fringes. I do own a pair of crimping pliers however,  strangely enough, as I'm somewhat of an obsessive/compulsive buyer when it comes to craft supplies. Especially when it comes to pliers. I've just never used these ones. 

I have to say though, I did like how quick and easy it was to create the fringes for the focal and the earrings using crimp tubes and beading wires, the same goes for positioning the beads on the necklace. The wire was so vibrantly colored, I  really wanted for it to show, so I decided to not clutter the design up with too many beads but keep everything light and airy instead. Another thing I liked about using the crimp tubes and wire is, how the beads seem to float on the wire, nice!

I used very little from my own stash actually - a firefly drop here, the very obvious lady-in-the-moon brass stamping (which arrived just two weeks ago, and ordered before I knew what my soup would contain - I was so delighted to discover it was a perfect fit for the MOP disk, so ON it went!), the chain of course  - I cannot go without chain - and the shell beads. The latter of which I got some three years ago as a freebie, but never found a use for.

Those eye-shaped brass stampings I used for the earrings are also something I'd never gotten on my own. So glad I got a pair of hole punch pliers just recently (I think I did mention already I happen to be a bit of a compulsive pliers buyer?), so these were super easy to convert into drops.

The organza ribbon was purchased for this project specifically, and it works quite well imho.

RAUS aus der Kuschelzone!

RAUS aus der Kuschelecke - ich habe noch nie mit Schmuckdraht und Crimpröhrchen gearbeitet. Auch Schleifenband nutz ich in der Regel nicht, und Fransen sieht man bei mir eher selten. Komischerweise hatte ich eine Crimpzange herumliegen, nur halt unbenutzt. Bin eine ziemlich impulsive/zwanghafte Zangenkäuferin.

Was ich wirklich mochte, war, wie simpel es war das "Gebamsel" mit dem Schmuckdraht und den Crimpröhrchen zu machen, oder die Perlen auf der Halskette zu positionieren. Der Draht ist so herlich knallig in der Farbe, den sollte man definitiv sehen, weshalb ich mich perlenmäßig für "weniger ist mehr" entschieden habe und versuchte das Design leicht und luftig zu halten. Was mir auch sehr gut gefällt ist wie die Perlen auf der Halskette zu "schweben" scheinen, klasse!

Ich habe sehr wenig von meinem eigenen Material benutzt - der kleine Libellenanhänger hier, die offensichtliche Frau-im-Mond aus hohlgepresstem Messing (die gerade mal vor zwei Wochen hier ankam, und eine gute Weile bevor ich wusste was in meiner Perlensuppe sein würde von mir bestellt wurde - aber sie passte GENAU auf die Perlmuttscheibe, also nix wie drauf damit!), die Kette natürlich - ich kann einfach nicht ohne Kette - und die Muschelperlen. Letzteres gabs mal als Gratisgeschenk auf der Kreativwelt, vor fast 3 Jahren, und ich bin superglücklich endlich eine Verwendung dafür gefunden zu haben.

Die augenförmigen Messingteile die ich für die Ohrringe benutzt habe hätte ich mir im Leben nicht gekauft - mit der Lochzange die ich mir vor kurzem geleistet habe (wie erwähnt, zwanghafte Zangenkäuferin) wurden sie jedoch supereinfach in Anhänger konvertiert.

Das Organzaband wurde speziell für dieses Projekt gekauft.
